BERLIN METROPOLITAN SCHOOL ORCHESTRA
• WELCOME:
Please complete the form below to register your child for the BMS ORCHESTRA starting in February 2025. Please submit your registration promptly, as we have a limited number of spots available, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All fields are required to ensure complete and accurate registration. The deadline for registration is December 20, 2024.

PROJECT INFORMATION
• INTRODUCTION:
We are delighted to announce a new opportunity for students at the Berlin Metropolitan School: starting in February 2025, students can join our new BMS ORCHESTRA through an exciting partnership. This orchestra program is for beginners only and students in grades 3 through 6 are invited to participate.
• OUR APPROACH:
The focus of this project is learning to play an instrument within a group setting. No prior musical experience is required and all students start from scratch. The so-called Five-Note Method is used, allowing students to play simple songs like Hänschen Klein or Jingle Bells together after a short period of practice. The great advantage of group lessons is that students learn together and look forward not only to the lessons themselves but also to each other. Making music together is fun! We anticipate 36 to 60 children per orchestra, with two to four small concerts planned per school year. If a student is either underchallenged or overwhelmed, additional private lessons can be booked at any time for an extra fee. The rehearsals are led by trained musicians who have the necessary experience to conduct group lessons. All musicians have submitted an extended criminal record check with no entries.
• INSTRUMENT CIRCLE:
In the first weeks after the winter holidays in February 2025, all registered students will participate in an "instrument circle" to explore different instruments - flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and euphonium. Each student will try each instrument to determine their preferences. After this trial period, each student will specify their top three instrument choices and instruments will be assigned based on this input and an assessment of suitability. Please note, due to factors such as body size or ability to produce a sound, students may not receive their top choice. However, approximately 80% of students typically receive their most preferred instrument.
• INSTRUMENT PROVISION:
Students will be provided with an insured instrument and accessories - instrument stand, music stand, workbook with CD - for the duration of the project.
• PROJECT DURATION:
01.02.2025 - 31.08.2026 - 19 months
• PAYMENT OPTIONS:
You may opt for monthly installments or a one-time advance donation.
• option I - monthly installments - 19x 139,00€
If choosing monthly installments, payments are due on the 1st or 15th of each month throughout the project duration.
• option II - advance donation - 1x 2.300,00€ - tax-deductible - equivalent to 121,05€ per month
If choosing advance donations, total payment must be received by January 7, 2025. Payment can be split across family members or tax years (2024/2025).

• REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:
Students will participate in two events weekly:
1. Section Rehearsal - A group lesson focused on their instrument.
2. Orchestra Rehearsal - Full orchestra practice.
No rehearsals are scheduled during school or public holidays. Rehearsal times listed below reflect active play time; students will have an additional 15 minutes before and after each rehearsal for setup and takedown. We will organize separate orchestras for grades 3 & 4 and for grades 5 & 6.

• We kindly ask for a donation of 90€ in advance for 60 minutes of private lessons.
• For 90 minutes of group lessons - with a maximum of four students - we request a donation of 60€ in advance.

• NON-REFUND POLICY:
I understand that the participation fee is non-refundable, regardless of whether my child withdraws from or is expelled from the program. Additionally, I acknowledge that if my child is expelled due to repeated disruptions, the obligation to continue monthly payments remains in effect. If I choose the monthly installment option, I agree to make payments for the entire duration of the program without exception. Behaviors that may result in expulsion include, but are not limited to, repeated tardiness, restless behavior, or talking during rehearsals. Should a student cease participating in rehearsals, the monthly fees may be converted into a donation, for which a donation receipt will be issued.

• INSTRUMENT LIABILITY:
I accept responsibility for any self-inflicted loss or damage to the instrument provided, should the insurance not cover it. I understand that accessories - instrument stands, workbooks, music stands, reeds, oils, greases, cleaning cloths, etc. - are excluded from the insurance coverage and must be replaced if lost or damaged. I commit to reporting any damage to the musical instrument without delay via eMail to bms@habitat4music.org, including photos and a detailed report describing the incident that led to the damage. I understand that the insurance will not cover repair costs if damages are only identified or reported collectively at the end of the project. I commit to promptly filing a police report in the event that the musical instrument is stolen.

I agree to waive my 14-day statutory right of withdrawal - Widerrufsrecht - under § 356 BGB, as the project commences shortly after registration and preparations for participation are immediately undertaken. I understand that my registration is final and binding.
